Rights deals renegotiated for Norwegian women’s league

Norwegian state broadcaster NRK and media company Amedia have struck new rights deals for the Toppserien, the top tier of domestic women’s football.

Fotball Media, which represents media rights for Norwegian football, has renegotiated existing deals with the two companies to run for the next three years.

As part of the deal, matches from every single round of the 2020 Toppserien will receive broadcast coverage. A total of 26 matches will air on NRK and through Amedia’s direktesport.no platform.

Amedia had signed a five-year rights deal for the Toppserien back in October 2017 but this will be replaced by the renegotiated agreement. That deal was due to run from 2018 to 2022 and was worth a total of NOK6.6m (€648,000/$715,000).

Under the previous deal, NRK had held rights to 10 Toppserien games per season.

Helge Birkelund, director of sports development at Amedia, said: “Last year we saw a strong growth in the number of viewers and we believe that interest will grow further in 2020. It is important for Amedia to follow local football closely, and we look forward to embarking on a new year with the Toppserien.”
