Czech Republic commercial and pay-television broadcaster Nova has agreed a rights-sharing deal involving the 2014 winter Olympic Games with public-service broadcaster Czech TV.
The Broadband TV News website said that Nova would make the Olympic ice hockey tournament in Sochi available to Czech TV in exchange for a number of popular Czech films.
The deal is said to be the first such partnership between the two broadcasters.
In October 2012, Nova and Czech TV acquired rights for the 2014 winter Olympics and the 2016 summer Games in a deal with the Sportfive agency.
Nova will provide pay-television, pay-per-view, video-on-demand and online coverage of both events.
Czech TV acquired free-to-air rights for both events, including online rights for most disciplines at the 2014 Olympics and online rights for all disciplines at the 2016 Olympics.
Nova’s deal stipulated that one discipline from the 2014 Games must be shown live on free-to-air television.
