Orange sells Polish sports broadcaster

The Polish arm of telecommunications group Orange has agreed a deal to sell pay-television broadcaster Orange Sport to RMVC, a company controlled by Roman Młodkowski, the former head of business and financial news channel TVN CNBC.

The Wirtualnemedia.pl website said the deal is part of Orange Polska’s strategy to disconnect itself from interests unrelated to telecommunciations.

The agreement was signed on Monday and while subject to certain conditions is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Młodkowski said Orange Sport will be rebranded but will retain a focus on sports content. The broadcaster’s current portfolio includes rights to Serie A, the top division of Italian football.

Młodkowski added: “I was looking for an ambitious professional challenge and I decided that this would be served by buying Orange Sport.”
