Perform in ground-breaking channel distribution agreement with Facebook

Digital media company Perform launched more than 50 sports channels on social networking website Facebook through its Livesport.tv live and on-demand sports viewing platform.

Payments for the Livesport.tv subscription service will initially be managed through internet payment service PayPal or via credit card, with prices in the UK starting from £2.99 (€3.65/$4.78) per month. Perform plans to let users pay using Facebook’s forthcoming Facebook Credits virtual currency service. All video-on-demand content will be available free.

Perform said that it would use Facebook’s “targeted advertising to reach potential subscribers for each sport” and added that Livesport.tv would be made available to other sports rights-holders to enable them to distribute their live and highlights content through the platform.

“We believe that making Livesport.tv available through Facebook presents a great opportunity to build our subscriber business and increase our video-on-demand audience,” Oliver Slipper, joint chief executive at Perform, said. “Our focus with Facebook will be to use the targeted advertising to communicate with niche fans around the world looking for special interest live sports content and use the in-built virality of the platform to target the hundreds of millions of sports fans on Facebook to share our video-on-demand sports content and drive video views globally.”

Livesport.tv’s channels include a range of live and on-demand content from a number of leading sports competitions in football, snooker and Aussie rules, plus a number of one-off sporting events from sports such as boxing.
