Portuguese Primeira Liga football clubs Porto and Sporting Lisbon have agreed new deals with telcos Portugal Telecom and Nos respectively.
Porto’s rights deal with Portugal Telecom will run for 10 seasons, from 2018-19 to 2027-28, and is worth a total of €457.5m ($499m). The rights cover Porto’s home games in the Primeira Liga.
The deal includes shirt sponsorship rights, beginning in January 2016 for an undisclosed period, and distribution rights for the club’s in-house channel, Porto Canal, for 12-and-a-half years, starting immediately and running until May 2028.
According to the Reuters news agency, Nos has acquired rights for Sporting home games for 10 seasons, from 2018-19 to 2027-28. Nos has also secured distribution rights for the Sporting TV channel for 12 seasons, from 2017-18 to 2028-29. As part of the agreement, Nos has also become the main sponsor of Sporting for 12-and-a-half seasons, starting immediately and running through to the end of June 2028.
The value of the new Sporting deals with Nos and PPTV is a combined total of €515m through to 2028, the club said.
Sporting has also renegotiated terms of its existing three-season rights deal, from 2015-16 to 2017-18, with the PPTV agency.
