Premiership Rugby, the governing body of the top division of English rugby union, has entered into a distribution partnership with in-flight and maritime entertainment specialist Global Eagle Entertainment (GEE).
The five-year agreement will run through to 2021 and grants GEE worldwide rights to the Premiership, the Premiership Rugby 7s series and the Anglo-Welsh Cup.
GEE will offer broadcasts to commercial flights and ships through its global VSAT networks.
The deal features group matches and semi-final and final competitions of the three tournaments, including live events and highlights.
“This has been a breakthrough season in terms of Premiership Rugby’s global footprint, and this latest partnership extends the reach of Aviva Premiership Rugby, Singha Premiership Rugby 7s series and Anglo-Welsh Cup competitions even further,” Premiership Rugby commercial director Dominic Hayes said. “It is the first of its kind for club rugby in England and continues our strategy to increase the global reach of our competitions and our 12 clubs.”
The deal was first reported by TV Sports Markets on October 14.
