Italian state broadcaster Rai has acquired rights for Serie B, the second tier of football in the country.
Rai has secured free-to-air rights for live coverage of a match every Friday night over the next three seasons, from 2018-19 to 2020-21.
The rights fee is less than €3m per season – significantly below the €5m per season Lega Serie B had been hoping for.
Bids from Rai to acquire Serie B’s exclusive free-to-air television and radio rights were deemed insufficient.
DAZN, the OTT platform operated by digital sports-media company Perform, already has the rights to every Serie B fixture over the next three seasons.
