US regional sports broadcaster Root Sports has introduced authenticated in-market live streaming of games for its Major League Baseball team partners.
The initiative covers Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, Pittsburgh Pirates and Colorado Rockies games in their local markets.
The deal between Root Sports and MLBAM, the interactive media and internet company of Major League Baseball, will feature no additional cost to authenticated pay-television subscribers of the former’s distribution partners that have chosen to participate.
Root Sports’ implementation of in-market live streaming means that only three of MLB’s 30 franchises remain without the service. They are the Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers.
