Mediaset Premium’s parent company RTI has acquired a supplementary package of rights to support the pay-television broadcaster’s coverage of Italy’s Serie A top football division for three years, from 2015-16 to 2017-18.
Package C, which has been snapped up by RTI, includes ancillary rights such as access to changing rooms, the tunnel and the pitch-side area for interviews.
Lega Serie A, which operates the competition, announced the award of the rights 11 months after RTI acquired Packages B and D in the sales process for the next three-year cycle of domestic rights. Package B includes digital-terrestrial rights for home and away games of eight teams, including the top four, while package D includes exclusive platform-neutral live rights to the 12 teams not covered by Packages A and B. Package B also includes DVBH, IPTV and mobile rights.
Lega Serie A president Maurizio Beretta said that RTI had been awarded the rights as it had tabled the highest bid.
Pay-television rival Sky Italia previously had a similar package of rights in the previous cycle.
