South African public-service broadcaster the SABC has secured limited free-to-air rights from pay-television sports broadcaster SuperSport International for three major sports events that will feature a South African team.
The SABC will broadcast coverage from the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy one-day cricket competition, as well as this year’s editions of quadrangular rugby union tournaments the Rugby Championship and the Incoming Series.
Under the terms of the sub-licence agreement, the SABC will broadcast live South Africa’s three group matches in the Champions Trophy, which is being hosted by England and Wales, in addition to one semi-final and the final. The deal was reached ahead of the opening game of the event today between South Africa and India.
The SABC will also have specific television programming that will feature daily highlights from other games in the tournament.
Both rugby competitions will also be broadcast by the SABC, but South Africa’s games in the Incoming Series will only be available on a delayed basis after the final whistle.
