Irish pay-television operator Setanta Sports has secured live broadcast rights to the 2012 Paralympic Games, which take place from August 29 to September 9.
Setanta will broadcast its coverage of the London 2012 Paralympic Games on its basic-tier channel Setanta Ireland. The channel is available via cable-television operator UPC and for the Games will be unencrypted on pay-television operator BSkyB’s satellite platform.
Coverage will also be available online via internet television service Setanta-i. It is the first time that the Paralympic Games will be shown live in Ireland.
Brian Quinn, marketing director at Setanta Sports, said: “We are delighted to be broadcasting the games on a freeview basis. This means that the majority of Irish households will be able to follow the Irish performances.”
Liam Harbison, chief executive of Paralympics Ireland, said: “This is a momentous announcement for Irish Paralympic sport. Paralympic sport at the top level is exciting, gripping and ferociously competitive – we look forward to Setanta bringing this to Irish sports fans.”
