SFR launches new 4K channel with Premier League coverage

French telecommunications company SFR has launched its new 4K ultra-high-definition channel, SFR Sport 4K.

Saturday’s English Premier League football match between Manchester United and Leicester City marked the first event to be broadcast on the channel, which is included in the SFR Sport bundle.

The channel also aired the English Premiership rugby match between Northampton and Wasps later in the day, before wrapping up its coverage with the evening Premier League fixture between Arsenal and Chelsea.

From next month, the channel will also feature coverage of the domestic Pro A men’s top-tier basketball competition.

SFR revealed details of its suite of five sports channels in June following the completion of its acquisition of Altice Media Group France. Along with SFR Sport 4K, the SFR Sport 1, 2, 3 and 5 channels were announced under the SFR Sport banner. SFR Sport 4K had initially been due to begin its coverage in mid-August.
