Singtel in late deal for Champions League rights

Singaporean telecommunications company SingTel has renewed rights for the Uefa Champions League and Europa League football tournaments.

The agreement was struck hours before the first fixtures in the competition’s group stages got underway yesterday.

The length of the deal has not yet been disclosed, but it deal will run until at least the end of the current season, 2012-13.

The rights will be exploited on Mio Sports 1, 2 and 3, the newly-launched sports channels on Singtel’s IPTV pay-television service Mio TV.

According to the Today Online news website, Singtel had been the only company in talks to acquire the rights from the Team Marketing agency, Uefa’s global sales agent.
