Pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland has launched a new OTT platform that will allow subscribers to access premium sports content directly through the internet.
Sky Online customers can access live coverage of sporting events such as the German Bundesliga top-tier domestic club football competition.
Subscribers will initially be able to access coverage via the internet, an iPhone smartphone or iPad tablet device, including AirPlay.
Content will also be made available through Xbox One games consoles, connected television sets from LG and Samsung, as well as a new Sky Online TV Box, which will be jointly developed by Sky Deutschland and US streaming company Roku. Android tablets and smartphones as well as other devices are expected to follow.
The basic Sky Starter package, which will include live streaming of the Sky Sports News pay-television channel, is available at €9.99 ($12.51) per month. An additional Sky Film package is available for €19.99 per month.
Subscribers to either package can order the Sky Supersport day pass for €19.99 per day. This will allow customers to access the broadcaster’s Sky Bundesliga and Sky Sport channels from 6.00am CET until 6.00am CET the following day.
In addition to the Bundesliga, customers can access coverage of events such as the Formula One motor-racing world championship and the Uefa Champions League European football club competition.
The new Sky Online service will be available to customers in Germany and Austria.
Brian Sullivan, chief executive officer of Sky Deutschland, said: “With Sky Online, we wanted to provide an additional option, combining some of the advantages of our traditional pay-TV premium service with the added flexibility that an online service enables.”
