German pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland has said it will broadcast esports for the first time through coverage of the finale of the 2015-16 season of the Virtuellen Bundesliga (VBL).
The VBL is an official competition of the German Football League (DFL) and sees gamers compete against each other playing EA Sports’ Fifa 16 title.
On May 14, Sky.de will live stream the quarter-finals of the VBL before the main action commences on the following day.
Sky’s coverage of the day’s action in the 2.Bundesliga will lead into a live television broadcast, and online streaming, of the VBL semi-finals and final.
The initiative will provide the VBL with over three hours of live television and online coverage and marks Sky’s first major foray into esports.
