German pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland has secured exclusive Ultra HD rights to national team football tournament the 2018 Fifa World Cup.
The agreement has been signed with SportA, the sports rights agency of public-service broadcasters ARD and ZDF, who hold the World Cup rights in Germany.
The package secured by Sky comprises 25 matches in total, including all of Germany’s games, the opening match, both semi-finals and the final itself. The matches will be broadcast on the Sky Sport UHD channel, with ARD and ZDF retaining rights to all games in SD and HD resolution.
Sky has regularly shown German Bundesliga and Uefa Champions League football matches in UHD since October 2016.
Germany won the 2014 World Cup and has been drawn alongside Mexico, South Korea and Sweden in Group F for this summer’s tournament, which runs from June 14 to July 15 in Russia.
