German pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland will launch an Ultra HD channel later this year and has also revamped its OTT platform to include a dedicated sports service.
The Broadband TV News website said the new UHD television channel will launch in the autumn and is set to commence with live football games from the German Bundesliga and Uefa Champions League. Sky chief executive Carsten Schmidt said “intense negotiations” were currently underway with rights holders.
Meanwhile, the Sky Online service has been rebranded as Sky Ticket, providing access without a regular subscription to Sky’s sports, movies and general entertainment content.
Launched in time for the 2016-17 Bundesliga season, which commences on August 26, Sky Ticket’s ‘Supersport’ package will be available for €9.99 ($11) on a daily basis, while weekly and monthly passes will cost €14.99 and €29.99, respectively.
Customers previously also had to hold an ‘Entertainment’ or ‘Cinema’ pass in order to access sports content through the platform.
