UK pay-television broadcaster Sky has announced that it will begin its coverage of this year’s edition of golf’s Open Championship with a free service plan.
Sky’s Now TV online streaming service will offer 24 hours of free access to the new ‘Sky Sports The Open’ dedicated channel and six other Sky Sports channels on July 14, the opening day of the event.
Customers can purchase further Sky Sports day passes for £6.99 (€8.22/$9), a week pass for £10.99 or a one-month pass for £33.99. Now TV is accessible on more than 60 devices including desktop, tablet and mobile.
Sky will broadcast live coverage of all four days at this year’s event, which will run from July 14-17 at the Royal Troon Golf Club in South Ayrshire, Scotland.
In February 2015, Sky agreed a five-year deal with the R&A, which operates the Open, for the 2017 event through to 2021. However, UK public-service broadcaster the BBC in September ended its deal early, allowing Sky to assume coverage from this year’s edition.
