UK pay-television broadcaster Sky has said it will rebrand its golf channel to highlight its coverage of the Players Championship, the flagship event on the PGA Tour.
Sky Sports Golf will become ‘Sky Sports The Players’ for the week of this year’s tournament, which runs in earnest from May 10-13.
Sky Sports The Players will launch on May 7 and will offer over 50 hours of live coverage and a range of additional programming dedicated to the tournament regarded as the unofficial fifth major of men’s golf.
Live action will commence on May 10 with featured group coverage during the early stages of the first round, while viewers will also have the option of watching live featured holes over the four tournament days.
The Players Championship has been staged at the TPC Sawgrass course in Florida since 1982, with Korea’s Kim Si-woo (pictured) the defending champion having become the tournament’s youngest ever winner at the age of 21 last year.
