Sofia giants CSKA and Levski threaten action in TV revenue dispute

Leading A Group clubs CSKA Sofia and Levski Sofia have threatened to boycott the top division of Bulgarian football unless a new model is drawn up for the distribution of television revenue.

In a joint statement issued to the Bulgarian Football Union, CSKA and Levski have claimed they should enjoy a greater share of the revenue from broadcast rights as they are the two most watched teams.

“For the realisation of common ideas, both clubs are prepared to take all the necessary extreme measures,” the clubs said in the statement.

Broadcast revenues for the A Group are currently shared on an equal basis amongst the league’s 12 teams.

Nova Broadcasting Group, part of multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster Modern Times Group, is the A Group’s current rights-holder having agreed a two-year deal, from 2014-15 to 2015-16, in August.
