Sport 1 Plus picks up Brasileiro, Sky swoops for pre-season coverage

German pay-television sports broadcaster Sport 1 Plus has acquired rights for the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A football league in Brazil.

Coverage will begin on April 15, with Sport 1 Plus showing one contest per match day, with up to three matches being shown every round from Friday to Sunday inclusive.

The deal was agreed with data services company Sportradar, which operates the Sportsman agency. The agreement will run until the end of 2018.

Sport 1 Plus already shows coverage of the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana Latin American football tournaments.

In other news, German pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland has sealed an exclusive deal with the Onside Sports agency to show three pre-season tournaments ahead of the 2018-19 season.

The venues, participants and dates are yet to be confirmed, but Sky will show coverage on its Sky Sport News HD channel and the Sky Sport website. The tournaments are likely to feature teams from England, Spain and Italy, as well as Germany.

Under the deal, Sky has also acquired rights for a number of standalone pre-season friendlies featuring German teams.
