Sports broadcaster Sport TV has acquired rights in Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia to the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) motorsport series.
The deal, which Sport TV agreed with series promoter Eurosport Events, has been signed ahead of WTCR’s six-event 2020 season, which gets underway in September.
The agreement covers 2020 and 2021 and includes an option for a third year.
Sport TV will be granted live rights to all races, with highlights and dedicated programmes to be shown on the Sport1 and Sport2 channels.
It will also provide coverage of Eurosport Events’ electric car-racing series, Pure ETCR, as part of the agreement.
WTCR rights in Hungary were previously held by public-service broadcaster MTVA.
Hungary’s Norbert Michelisz is the defending WTCR champion.
The 2020 WTCR season gets underway at Austria’s Salzburgring with two races on September 12-13. Further events will then follow in Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Spain and Italy.
