Sport1 extends German ice hockey rights deal

German sports broadcaster Sport1 has extended its rights deal with the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) through the 2017-18 season.

Sport1 will continue to broadcast live coverage of German national team games on its free-to-air television platform. Coverage will also be available via Sport1’s mobile and online platforms.

The deal includes live broadcasts of at least four of Germany’s home games and three away games per season.

Sport1 will also broadcast live and exclusive coverage of all six games in the annual Deutschland-Cup national team tournament.

Fixtures involving Germany will be broadcast on the Sport1 free-to-air channel while games that do not feature the home team will be broadcast on the Sport1 Plus pay-television channel.

Sport1 managing director Olaf Schröder said: “By continuing our partnership we are making a statement that the fastest team sport in the world will remain an integral part of Sport1 coverage long-term – after all, we also have the World Championships in our schedule until at least 2017. That’s when they will be held in Germany and France. In particular when they were held in Germany 2001 and 2010, that showed what great potential this sport has in our country.”
