German sports broadcaster Sport1 has acquired rights to the 2015 and 2017 EuroHockey Championships, along with agreeing a three-year deal for club competition the Euro Hockey League.
The deals were negotiated with the Mediapro agency, which brokered the contracts on behalf of the European Hockey Federation. The deal includes live, highlights, and on-demand rights in the territories of Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Switzerland.
Sport1 has acquired exclusive rights for the German market, with all games involving the German men’s and women’s teams shown live on free-to-air television on Sport1 or pay-television on Sport1 Plus.
The agreement between Sport1 and Mediapro also includes platform-neutral distribution rights to the Euro Hockey League for the next three seasons through 2017.
The 2015 EuroHockey Championships will be staged in London from August 21-30, with Amsterdam the host in 2017 from August 19-27.
