German pay-television broadcaster Sportdigital will launch a high-definition channel on November 4.
Swiss pay-television operator UPC Cablecom has signed on as the platform’s first carriage partner. Sportdigital said negotiations are currently proceeding with other operators.
“The launch of the HD transmission in Switzerland at UPC Cablecom is an important step in Sportdigital’s history,” Sportdigital managing director Gisbert Wundram said. “We now aim to further follow this path and also offer our channel focused on international live football on further platforms in Germany in HD.”
Sportdigital has agreed rights deals for the Australian A-League, the Japanese J.League, the Scottish Premiership and the Dutch Eredivisie since the start of the 2014-15 football season.
The deals for the A-League and the J.League are for three years, from 2014-15 to 2016-17. Sportdigital picked up rights to the Scottish Premiership in a one-year deal covering the 2014-15 season.
The broadcaster renewed its rights for the Eredivisie in a four-year deal, from 2014-15 to 2017-18.
