Sporttotal expands into Austria, outlines European target

German media and technology company Sporttotal has said it will launch its self-titled online streaming platform in Austria as part of a wider goal of creating Europe’s leading sports video service by 2020.

Sporttotal, which was formerly known as Wige Media, launched its Sporttotal.tv streaming platform in January. Last December, Wige Media signed a partnership with the German Football Association (DFB), through which it provides German amateur football clubs with special video technology that enables games to be transmitted live and fully automatically using the Sporttotal.tv platform.

Sporttotal said it has now completed similar trials of this technology with the Fussballoesterreich.at platform and has agreed on a partnership with the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB).

Peter Lauterbach, chief executive of Sporttotal, said: “We want to make Sporttotal.tv the most extensive and market-leading European sports video platform by 2020. Demand from international associations and different sports is great.”
