Swiss public-service broadcaster SRG has acquired rights to a number of International Ski Federation (FIS) events and extended its partnership with national governing body Swiss-Ski.
The long-term agreement with FIS grants SRG rights to World Cup events for the five-year period spanning the 2016-17 to 2020-21 seasons. The deal also includes World Championship events in 2017, 2019 and 2021.
It covers the alpine, Nordic, snowboard and freestyle skiing disciplines of the World Cup, as well as the 2017 Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships, and the Alpine and Nordic World Championships in 2019 and 2021.
SRG will hold rights to the events across television, radio and digital platforms.
The deal was agreed with the Infront Sports & Media agency, which serves as FIS's overall commercial partner for the 2019 and 2021 Alpine and Nordic World Championships, and manages the international media rights distribution – excluding domestic territories – for the 2017 Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships. Infront also facilitates global media rights distribution for the majority of FIS World Cup events.
SRG's extended agreement with Swiss-Ski, meanwhile, ensures the broadcaster will continue to produce the international television coverage for all FIS-organised events in Switzerland. The six-year agreement runs until the end of the 2021-22 season.
