The Star India broadcast division of media conglomerate News Corporation has announced it will launch a new pay-television sports channel on Monday, March 11, according to the Indian Television website.
The channel, Star Sports 2, will focus on football content such as the Premier League, the Liga and Serie A, the top domestic divisions in England, Spain and Italy, respectively, as well as the English FA Cup knockout competition.
“Star Sports 2 will primarily have international football content besides other sports content,” Star India chief operating officer Sanjay Gupta said. “We have a lot of sports content, so at times we are unable to utilise this content when there are multiple events lined up simultaneously.”
Initially the channel will be available on digital cable-television platforms and subsequently it will be rolled out on analogue cable-television platforms across India, the report added.
