India pay-television broadcaster Star has signed a media rights deal with agency Sporty Solutionz to broadcast the Asian Wrestling Championships from February 18 to 23.
The competition, which is organised by world governing body United World Wrestling, will be covered on the Star Sports First channel and also streamed live on OTT platform Hotstar.
Sporty Solutionz is the exclusive media rights partner for UWW in the Indian sub-continent.
The championships are also being streamed live across the Indian subcontinent on WrestlingTV, Sporty Solutionz OTT platform. WrestlingTV will also carry live news and score updates, highlights, analysis and review videos.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, president of the Wrestling Federation of India, which is hosting the event, said: “The Wrestling Federation of India is elated to get Star Sports First on board for this prestigious championship. The sport of wrestling will surely get elevated with this tie-up. The value-added, high-quality production is going to offer a new experience to the wrestling fans in the country.”
This year’s Asian Championships has added significance for athletes, with the six-day event offering qualification opportunities for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Indian team will have up to 30 athletes – 10 each in the men’s and women’s freestyle events and another 10 in the Greco-Roman event.
