Sports production and media company Sunset+Vine has been selected as the host broadcaster for Eliud Kipchoge’s attempt to break the two-hour marathon barrier in Vienna next month.
Sunset+Vine has been selected by the Ineos 1:59 Challenge team and will also provide a digital and distribution solution for the attempt, which will take place on October 12 in The Prater, a park known as the ‘green lung of Vienna’.
The broadcast’s primary enhanced programme feed will contain links and signposts to specially-curated live second-screen content and user-controlled data streams through a collaboration with Ineos and Singular Live.
Discussions are also being held between Sunset+Vine’s distribution team and broadcasters and platforms to create an innovative global broadcast framework that can deliver the attempt to as many viewers as possible.
Sunset+Vine TV News will also provide a full news production and distribution service in the build-up to the Challenge and on the day of the event. The company’s digital team will create additional content and stories for social platforms.
British chemicals company Ineos was announced as the main sponsor of Kipchoge’s attempt in May. A major marketing campaign will launch in the lead-up to the attempt.
Vienna was selected to host the attempt in June following an extensive worldwide assessment process. Ineos said The Prater would provide Kipchoge with the optimum conditions to break the record.
The Ineos 1:59 Challenge will mark Kipchoge’s second attempt to become the first person to run a marathon in under two hours. The Kenyan, who is regarded as one of the greatest marathon runners of all time, clocked 2:00:25 in a specially-created event which was not recognised as an official world record at Monza, Italy in May 2017.
