Sportdigital Fussball, the subscription broadcaster in German-speaking countries, has acquired rights to the remainder of this season’s Superliga Argentina, the top tier of Argentinian football.
The deal also allows Sportdigital Fussball to broadcast the Copa de la Superliga, as it did last season, and for the Superliga to return to its schedules.
The rights bolster Sportdigital Fussball’s Latin American output, which already includes the Copa Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil.
Torneos, the Argentinian rights agency, is the long-standing international rights-holder of the Superliga. However, the distributor of the rights from 2020-21 onwards remains unclear. The Superliga has further extended and revised the tender process following criticism over the fairness of the invitation to tender.
In recent years, Sportdigital has marketed its “Football Around The World” concept and promoted itself as “The Football Channel” and cemented its positioning as a football broadcaster with its rebranding as Sportdigital Fussball in August.
The 2020 Copa de la Superliga will run from March 15 to May 31.
