SuperSport, the pay-television broadcaster that operates in sub-Saharan Africa, and direct-to-home and IPTV platform Digi have acquired rights to Serie A, the top division of Italian football.
Serie A will return to SuperSport for the 2018-19 season. The length of the agreement was not disclosed, but all 380 matches per season will be broadcast by SuperSport throughout sub-Saharan Africa and the adjacent islands and be available to all of MultiChoice’s subscribers.
Meanwhile, Digi has acquired exclusive rights in the Czech Republic and Slovakia for Serie A. The deal will cover three seasons, from 2018-19 to 2020-21.
The rights will be exploited on the Digi Sport 1 HD, Digi Sport 2 HD and Digi Sport 3 HD channels, which are available via the Nova Digi TV CZ and Digi2Go platforms.
Digi, which also offers coverage of the German Bundesliga, English Premier League and second-tier Championship football matches, said that it would be making another “major announcement” about football rights on July 11.
