Swedish public-service broadcaster SVT and commercial and pay-television broadcaster TV4 have acquired rights to the Uefa Euro 2020 national team football tournament.
SVT and TV4 are currently partnering for coverage of the ongoing Euro 2016 event in France and will continue this relationship through to 2020, which will be a special edition of the competition staged in multiple cities across Europe.
Erik Westberg, sports director for TV4 and C More, said: “The commitment we have seen during the (2016) European Championships has been fantastic and the TV4 match between Sweden and Belgium attracted almost three million viewers. Through this agreement, we extend our championship tradition that began back in 1998.”
TV4 and SVT will also share rights to the Fifa World Cups in 2018 and 2022. Sweden bid for a package of hosting rights to Euro 2020, but Stockholm’s offer was not successful.
