Telecommunications company Telefónica has agreed broadcast rights deals with Spanish Liga football clubs Celta Vigo and Real Sociedad for the 2015-16 season.
Telefónica’s deal with Celta follows an agreement with Sociedad, with the Atlantico.net website stating the latest contract with the Galician club is worth around €23m ($28.5m). Telefónica will replace pay-television operator Canal Plus as Celta’s broadcast partner.
Atlantico.net added that Telefónica could now target rights deals with Barcelona and Espanyol for the 2015-16 campaign.
The one-year deals have been struck with the Liga expected to move to a collective rights-selling model from the 2016-17 season. Currently clubs are able to negotiate their own broadcast deals.
