Telecommunications company Telefónica has acquired MotoGP rights in Spain for the 2014 season, according to the Dorna Sports agency, the motorcycling world championship’s commercial rights-holder.
Telefónica struck the deal with Dorna and commercial broadcaster Telecinco, which has a three-year MotoGP rights deal in Spain, from 2012 to 2014.
Dorna said that under the “initial agreement,” Telefónica’s IPTV platform Movistar TV would show every race, qualifying session and practice session live.
Mediaset’s commercial channel Telecinco will show nine grands prix live and the remaining 10 races on a delayed basis.
Movistar TV’s coverage will be shown via a dedicated new channel, which will also provide news updates, historic races, documentaries, films and other support programming. Movistar TV’s coverage of the races will feature up to six new camera angles, Dorna said.
