Spanish-language sports broadcaster Telemundo Deportes has entered into a partnership with video production company Playmaker Media to explore the creation of direct-to-consumer sports streaming opportunities for audiences around the world.
Both companies belong to the family of US media company NBCUniversal. As part of the partnership, Telemundo Deportes has also chosen Playmaker Media to power its streaming coverage of the 64 games of the 2018 Fifa World Cup and develop products that will enhance the online experience around the national team football tournament.
Telemundo Deportes is the exclusive Spanish-language media rights holder of the World Cup in the US.
In terms of global opportunities, the two firms said they will work together to provide end-to-end support for companies in need of high-quality streaming solutions for the growing sports audience consuming content online.
