James Warburton, the chief executive of Ten Network, said the Australian commercial broadcaster was looking to become more competitive in the sports-rights market in a bid to increase its viewing figures.
“We are up to our eyeballs having a look at things,” Warburton said at the Financial Review and Macquarie Future Forum. “It’s a matter of getting in there and figuring out what makes sense.”
Warburton said that Ten was a “little bit skinny” on the programming front at present, but added that the financial health and strategy of the network as a whole would be a key consideration during a drive to acquire rights.
He said: “Do you want to derail the entire programming strategy of the network? No, but I think we will be a lot more competitive than people give us credit for.”
