French commercial broadcaster TF1 has acquired non-exclusive rights for the final of the Uefa Champions League European club football competition in a sublicensing deal with French pay-television broadcaster Canal Plus, according to French newspaper l’Equipe.
The deal will run for three years and will cover the finals of the 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 tournaments.
The report said that TF1 would pay Canal Plus €2.5 million ($3.4 million) per year for the rights.
Public-service broadcaster France Télévisions and commercial broadcaster M6 were also interested in the rights, the newspaper added.
Canal Plus, which will also show the finals, was only able to sublicense the rights to a free-to-air broadcaster due to the match being covered by government legislation that blocks pay-television broadcasters from showing certain events of public interest on an exclusive basis.
