Time Warner Cable Sports sets launch date for new channels

US cable-television operator Time Warner Cable Sports will launch two new regional sports channels for the southern California region on October 1.

The channels, which will be called Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes, will show more than 120 live sports events per year, including the Los Angeles Lakers’ NBA basketball games, LA Galaxy’s Major League Soccer matches and Women’s NBA basketball involving the Los Angeles Sparks.

Time Warner Cable Deportes will provide Spanish-language commentaries for its sports coverage.

Time Warner Cable Sports president David Rone said: “Our networks are created around live coverage of some of the region’s signature franchises and represent a 24-seven commitment to give fans more access and insight than they have ever seen before.”
