Canadian pay-television sports broadcaster TSN has agreed a partnership with UK pay-television broadcaster Sky to enhance its coverage of the Formula One motor racing championship.
As part of the partnership, terms of which were undisclosed, TSN will deliver expanded pre-race and post-race coverage for all 21 races on the 2016 F1 calendar, on top of the broadcaster’s existing practice and qualifying coverage.
TSN will offer expanded coverage of qualifying, plus all-new pre-race coverage from Sky Sports featuring the track parade and driver interviews. TSN’s race-day coverage will now feature commentary and analysis from Sky Sports’ broadcast team.
Meanwhile, post-race coverage from Sky Sports will be offered, including podium celebrations, instant reaction from the track and detailed analysis of the race. The agreement commences from this weekend’s opening round of the 2016 season, the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Shawn Redmond, vice-president of programming for TSN, said: “This is another example of how we continue to leverage our five national feeds. By adding even more content to our growing lineup of championship events, we are better serving our fans and bringing tremendous value to our subscribers.”
In 2014, TSN and its French-language sister broadcaster RDS reached a new media rights extension with the Formula One Group through to 2019, allowing the networks to maintain complete Canadian exclusivity of the entire Formula One world championship. Sky holds the pay-television rights to F1 in the UK.
