US media company Turner Sports’ ELeague esports property has agreed a wide-ranging tournament and content distribution deal with Electronic Arts focusing on the games developer’s Fifa 20 football title.
The tie-up allows TBS, the Turner-owned pay-tv channel, to broadcast content from the year-long EA Sports Fifa 20 Global Series on its “ELeague on TBS” programming.
The best moments from the series and the Fifa eWorld Cup 2020 will be showcased on several episodes debuting in January.
In addition, ELeague will produce three Fifa 20 Ultimate Team (FUT) Champions Cup events – the most of any Fifa 20 Global Series tournament partner – across North America and Europe throughout 2020. The first ELeague-produced event begins January 17 at ELeague Arena in Atlanta.
ELeague will also hold two additional FUT Champions Cup events in Europe in 2020. Additional details about those events are set to be revealed.
ELeague was created in 2015 by Turner and agency giant WME|IMG (now Endeavor).
In 2019, ELeague partnered with EA to host the ELeague FUT Champions Cup February. Beyond hosting the competition, ELeague created unique content surrounding the tournament by aligning with Turner Sports’ production of Uefa Champions League matches.
Jennifer Dill, vice-president of esports at Turner Sports, said: “In addition to the role ELeague will play in the growth of EA Sports Fifa 20 as a top-tier esport and viewing experience, we are looking forward to leveraging the full breadth of Turner Sports’ platforms and sports programming to drive additional excitement surrounding the EA Sports Fifa 20 Global Series.”
