Norwegian commercial and pay-television broadcaster TV2 has acquired rights to the Europa League, the second-tier competition operated by European football’s governing body Uefa.
TV2 has acquired rights for the three seasons spanning 2018-19 to 2020-21, usurping international media and entertainment company Discovery Communications as the tournament’s rights-holder in Norway.
In total, over 200 matches a year will be shown on the TV2 channels and on TV2 Sumo.
The agreement further enhances TV2’s football portfolio, which is also set to include the Uefa Champions League.
Media group MTG, which runs free-to-air and pay-television channels across the Nordic region, has sublicensed some coverage to TV2 across the same 2018-19 to 2020-21 window.
TV2 will have non-exclusive rights to 30 Champions League matches per season and will show all its matches free-to-air. The broadcaster will show one match on Tuesdays and one on Wednesdays during the group stages.
