Swedish commercial and pay-television broadcaster TV4 has ramped up its commitment to American football in the country by agreeing an expanded rights deal for the domestic Superserien league.
Under the banner of Friday Night Football, TV4 Sport and TV4 Play Premium will broadcast a game from the 2016 Superserien season live every Friday night, starting on April 8 when the new campaign commences.
TV4 has also committed to postseason coverage and will broadcast the semi-finals and final of the Superserien season, which will be held at Stockholm’s Olympic Stadium on July 9. The contract represents 15 games in total, with TV4 having previously shown the finals of the 2014 and 2015 competitions.
Martin Söderberg, vice-president of the Swedish American Football Federation, said: “This is a huge step in the growth and development of American football in Sweden. The number of practitioners is growing, especially on the youth side, and we hope that the TV broadcasts will increase interest both to play and watch the sport.”
