Spanish public-service broadcaster TVE has built on its domestic football package for the 2015-16 season by acquiring live rights to LaLiga and Copa del Rey games.
Under the agreement, TVE will hold exclusive live rights to a second choice game from every match day of the top division of Spanish football.
In addition, TVE will also broadcast one live second choice game from every match day of the Copa del Rey knockout competition, excluding the final. In January, commercial broadcaster Mediaset agreed a three-year deal with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for national team and club competition rights, including the Copa del Rey final.
The fresh deal comes after LaLiga last month awarded the exclusive free-to-air highlights package for games from the top division of Spanish football and the Copa del Rey for 2015-16 to TVE.
The ‘Lot 3’ rights package was also contested by commercial broadcasters Atresmedia and Mediaset, along with the Forta group of regional public-service broadcasters in Spain.
LaLiga said in a statement: “RTVE and LaLiga become partners in a project to support and promote the top Spanish professional football, helping to create wealth and overseas outreach of our country.”
