José Ramón Diez, the director of Spanish public-service broadcaster TVE, has confirmed that there is a plan in place to close sports channel Teledeporte at the end of this year.
“At this moment it has been decided to close the channel on December 31,” Diez told the Diario de Sevilla newspaper. “In the current economic conditions TVE has to save costs and that requires the closure of a channel.”
Diez, who added that the plan still has to be ratified by the Spanish government, said that Teledeporte’s content would be shown by sister channel La 2.
In July, TVE said that it would take Teledeporte off digital-terrestrial television and only offer it as an online channel.
