Spanish public-service broadcaster TVE has agreed a three-season extension to its rights deal for motorcycling series the Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK).
The agreement, spanning the 2016 to 2018 seasons, was struck with Dorna WSBK, commercial rights-holder of the series.
The contract means every round of WorldSBK will continue to be broadcast on Teledeporte, TVE’s free-to-air sports channel, throughout Spain for the next three seasons.
Every race and Superpole session of WorldSBK and support series WorldSSP will also be available live online through the deal. In addition, highlights of the STK1000 Cup series will be offered online.
Spain is a key market for WorldSBK and the 2016 season gets underway in Phillip Island, Australia on February 26-28 with home favourite Jordi Torres (pictured) expected to mount a title challenge for BMW.
“It’s fantastic news for Spanish fans that this new agreement has been reached given the rich history and tradition in Spain of roadracing competition,” Manel Arroyo, managing director of television and media for Dorna Sports, said. “RTVE is a fantastic partner with whom we can assure the future of WorldSBK throughout Spain. Together with Teledeporte, we are looking forward to growing WorldSBK to an even greater level.”
