TVR and Romtelecom settle Euro 2012 sublicensing dispute

Romanian public-service broadcaster TVR has settled a dispute with pay-television broadcaster Romtelecom by renegotiating a deal for coverage of the Uefa Euro 2012 football tournament.

TVR, which reportedly paid €9.3 million ($11.63 million) for the rights, curtailed a sublicensing deal with Romtelecom on Friday after accusing the pay-television broadcaster of failing to pay its rights fees on time. Romtelecom said TVR had sent an invoice charging the incorrect amount.

The agreement was renegotiated over the weekend. Romtelecom and TVR will now both show the tournament’s remaining matches live simultaneously, according to local newspaper Capital.

Romtelecom has been showing the tournament’s games on its Dolce Sport pay-television channel, including some matches exclusively live.
