Uefa, football’s European governing body, has said that viewing figures released today (Thursday) show that Euro 2020 acted as “a timely reminder of the importance major sport events play in delivering those special, but increasingly infrequent, mass appointment-to-view moments”.
The figures, which include a live match cumulative event audience of 5.23 billion and global live average audience of 328 million for the Italy-England final, were accompanied by digital engagement figures that, Uefa said, demonstrate the “enormous global appeal of the competition”. Uefa said that, on average, each live match was watched by over 100 million viewers and that there was a “unique live reach” of 1.9 billion.
