UK rights deal signed for Indian Super League

Free-to-air UK television platform BritAsia TV has acquired rights for the Indian Super League club football competition.

The multi-year deal begins with the 2017-18 ISL season, with BritAsia TV’s coverage to commence on November 17.

BritAsia TV said it would show 95 ISL games as part of the agreement.

Its coverage will feature a triple-header of games each week, starting with as-live broadcasts on Friday and Saturday evenings. A live match will be shown on Sunday afternoons. The broadcaster said more details of its coverage would be announced in due course.

The deal was brokered by Birmingham-based sports agency Sporting Group International.

Former UK-based players set to compete in this season’s ISL include ex-Republic of Ireland international Robbie Keane (pictured), and ex-Manchester United defender Wes Brown. Keane and Brown will be playing for Atletico de Kolkata and the Kerala Blasters, respectively.

Tony Shergill, managing director of BritAsia TV, said: “BritAsia TV is a strong household brand amongst the Asian community and we’re keen to support and promote the cultural identity and voice of British Asians. The acquisition of the Indian Super League rights will open up a new audience to our station as we head towards our tenth anniversary.”

BritAsia TV is available through pay-television broadcaster Sky, as well as Vision TV Freeview, online at VisionTV.co.uk and Virgin TV.

BritAsia TV also said that it would soon be launching on online streaming service Yupp TV.
