Spanish-language broadcaster Univision has acquired live rights in the US for domestic basketball games that take place in Spain.
Univision will show two games per week from competitions operated by the ACB, basketball’s governing body in Spain.
The programming will include live coverage of the Liga Endesa, the top division of basketball in the country, as well as Spanish knockout tournaments the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa. Univision will also show a regular Liga Endesa magazine programme.
According to the Europa Press agency, the deal started immediately and will run for at least two-and-a-half years until the end of the 2014-15 season.
Univision acquired the rights from the MP & Silva agency.
“With the confirmation of our presence on a prestigious broadcaster such as Univision, we can say that the Liga Endesa is a truly global product,” the ACB’s chief executive, Albert Agustí, said. “The main objectives of the international expansion project have been met satisfactorily and because of that our games reach millions of fans worldwide.”
Coverage of the Liga Endesa is now available in 102 countries around the world.
